Success Story: Carla Vanderbilt

In 2009, Carla Vanderbilt, then a junior at Stetson College, Florida, spent her summer working with Dr. David Carr at the University of Virginia’s Blandy Experimental Farm studying how gray catbird vocalizations vary with habitat and experience. After graduating in 2010, Carla worked as a research assistant with Dr. Emily DuVal on projects addressing avian behavioral ecology in Panama. Carla’s research experience and obvious potential paid off when she was awarded a prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. With her fellowship in hand, Carla is now working towards a Ph.D. in biology at Florida State University.
