2019 Biology REU Site Workshop
Holiday Inn Rosslyn at Key Bridge
April 4-6, 2019
The 2019 Biology REU Workshop will be held at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn at Key Bridge, 1900 North Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22209. Check in will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday April 4th. The workshop will begin at 5pm on April 4 and will conclude at 12:00 PM on Saturday April 6, 2019. The meeting will feature speakers, contributed poster sessions and breakout sessions. REU site directors are invited to register. There is a maximum of 130 registrations with a registration deadline of March 20, 2019. The meeting will take place regardless of the government shutdown.
This will be an opportunity for site directors to share and discuss best practices while also providing feedback on longitudinal tracking.
To participate in the REU Site Workshop, please do the following:
- Book your own travel. (this should be covered through your individual REU site grant)
- Book your lodging.
- Be present approximately 5 pm Thursday, April 4 – Noon Saturday, April 6, 2019.
A registration fee of $165 will cover a dinner on Thursday, April 4th, a continental breakfast and buffet style lunch on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 and administration costs. Participants are on their own for dinner on Friday, April 5th. Participants are also on their own for travel and lodging.
Check in and name badge pick up will take place from 1:00pm-5:00pm on Thursday, April 4th outside of the Rosslyn Ballroom.
The Workshop will kick off with a reception / poster session between 5:00pm-6:15pm on Thursday, April 4th, 2019. During the online registration you may select that you will be presenting a poster. We can accept up to 30 posters. The poster session is first come first serve based on your online Workshop registration. Poster stands will be set up to place your poster when you check in for the meeting. The poster dimensions should be 36”h x 48”w. Please have your poster set up no later than 5:00pm on Thursday, April 4th. The posters will remain up during the Workshop and must be removed by 8:30am, Saturday, April 6th or they will be thrown away.
Thursday night’s dinner choices (April 4) are salmon with butter sauce, prime rib or beef, or veggie skillet. These dinner choices are gluten-free. Side dishes are a choice of either rice pilaf or roasted potatoes. Desserts are a choice of cheesecake, carrot cake, or mixed berries. For lunch on Saturday (April 6) the choices are turkey/provolone or tuna salad stuffed croissants. Participants will choose specific meals on the online registration. Dinner tickets of individual meal choices will be given to participants at check in at the start of the workshop. Throughout the Workshop food will be labeled, if it contains gluten.
Cancellation policy: Non-refundable registration fee of $25/person will not be returned. After March 20, 2019 the full fee will not be returned.
