Travels Funds for REU Students

Through the generous support of the National Science Foundation (NSF DBI 1048864) and the efforts of the BIO REU Leadership Committee funds are now available to support student travel to present their research at scientific meetings. Students may receive up to $1,000 in travel reimbursement. Please click here for more information.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Students are invited to apply to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). REU students are often competitive for this award because of the independent research they conduct at the undergraduate level and their strong interest in pursuing graduate studies. The GRFP provides 3 years of Fellowship support to our nation’s best future scientists and engineers who seek research-based masters or PhD degrees in the science and engineering fields supported by NSF. The award includes a $30,000 per fellowship year stipend to the student, and a $10,500 fellowship year cost-of-education allowance to the graduate institution they will choose to attend. Undergraduates in their senior year and graduate students in the first or second year of their programs are generally eligible to apply. Students can look at the 2009 Solicitation for general guidelines, available as a link on www.nsf.gov/grfp. The 2010 Solicitation will be posted soon. The new Solicitation must be examined carefully for changes to the program for the upcoming competition.
