NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)

Please share information about the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) with your REU students. REU students are often competitive for this award because of the independent research they conduct at the undergraduate level and their strong interest in pursuing graduate studies. The GRFP provides 3 years of Fellowship support to our nation’s best future scientists and engineers who seek research-based masters or PhD degrees in the science and engineering fields supported by NSF. The award includes a $30,000 per fellowship year stipend to the student, and a $10,500 fellowship year cost-of-education allowance to the graduate institution they will choose to attend. Undergraduates in their senior year and graduate students in the first or second year of their programs are generally eligible to apply. Students can look at the 2010 Solicitation for general guidelines, available as a link on www.nsf.gov/grfp. The 2011 Solicitation will be posted soon. The new Solicitation must be examined carefully for changes to the program for the upcoming competition.
